Tone of "Qol"

Qol appears to be the Hebrew word for God's voice or God's sound when he came walking in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8). In other places, qol seems to be an expression of sorrow or angst (see Hannah in 1 Samuel 1). In the Garden, it is a sound heard by a man and woman in hiding, listening to a familiar voice crying out, "Where are you?" A voice and presence from which we will never successfully hide, now asking a question that could be considered rhetorical, but certainly is not.

That sound and it's question continue to reverberate.
